Friends and Family Time

This weekend was filled with visiting people new friends, and family. Saturday we went out with some new friends we made.  That is one thing being in the military makes you do.  You must learn to make new friends where ever you go.  We set off to meet up with our new friends  at the zoo.  However the road ways here have a system of several tunnels and bridges. Think naval town lots of water.  Extremely large ships do not go under bridges so they incorporated tunnels.  The problems with tunnels and bridges is traffic gets backed up in hurry.  So our new friends had trouble crossing the water to meet us. We were to late to go to the zoo.  We decided to met up at the McDonalds on  the main Navy base.  While we ate our dinner, we made some plans for next weekend.  Always good to make plans to get out of your house as a stay at home mom.

Being a stay at home mom mom on a budget makes it easy to just stay inside and rarely venture out.  Looking around the community for new things to do is always fun.  This week we got a free trip to the zoo.  Next weekend it will be a free excursion to the  Yankee Candle Flagship Store for the Fall Festival.  You never know what you will find when you type the words free and your town in to google.

The weather Sunday was amazing.  We started our day with hubby coming home from duty.  These are always exciting times.  K1 jumped up from his breakfast to run to the door and see daddy. Hubby was up all night on the ship so he laid down to take a quick nap after breakfast.  A few hours later our dear military friend P stopped by to say hi.  Military friend translates into extended family for life to anyone who was wondering. He was down enjoying the local wine festival.  He even brought the hubby and I a bottle of wine.  It all made for an excellent start to the day.

Check out I'm so excited so how ready I was for our next adventure. Later on Aunt A drove to our side of the water. Having family only an hour away is a new experience for us, and often quite fun.  Living in a highly military area paid off.  Hubby's sister and brother-in-law were both in the Army, and got stationed over here. When Aunt A and Cousin A got here we went to military appreciation day at the ZOO!

We were running a little later than we had planned, but we still saw most of the animals.  The dads decided to stay home, and do quite time I guess.  The moms went on to conquer the zoo with 3 little curious kiddos.  The monkeys as K1 called them were a big hit. One day we will get to there real names, poor little chimpanzees.  I am certain if the adults were not so bust wrangling little bodies that we would have been able to reach out and touch the giraffes.

However the biggest excitement of the visit came at one of the large monitor lizard enclosures.  We happened to stroll by at feeding time.  K1 has his face almost pressed up against the glass.  They were feeding the lizard little baby chicks.  The crowd around us got so big had to actually ask people to move so we could get out.  We left after it ate 2 chicks so more people could see.  I personally never remember getting to see an animal feeding at the zoo so it was a fun experience.

The only complaint about the zoo was from K1 he thinks we should have ridden the train.  So now we know what we must do next time.  We did go ahead, and invest in a year long zoo membership pass.  Now we can go whenever we want.  We only live about 10 minutes from the zoo so that can be some fun little evening trips on the slightest whim.

Check out the kiddos chasing peacocks here. The Chase.

Ahhh Moment

My husband has duty so he is gone for about 36-40 hours.  He will then come home exhausted because he rarely sleeps on duty.  Korvin is potty training, and Kenaniah is cutting a tooth.  Really could use some adult conversation right about now.

I wonder some days where I got the idea that homeschooling might be for us.  I feel confident that I will make a good teacher.  The thing that bothers me is will I be able to maintain the house, direct school, and still make time for myself?

I just started putting time for myself back on the list of things I need to do.  Kenaniah is just now 10 months old, and playing by him self a bit more.  Korvin is turning out to be an awesome big brother. In fact so much so that it is making bed time a circus at our house.  The boys share a room so if Kenaniah starts crying at bed time Korvin gets up and gives him a toy.  If that does not work he reads him books.  All the while I just want them to both lay down and SLEEP!! Korvin likes to have the light on as he has recently started waking with bad dreams in the middle of the night.  Kenaniah seems to prefer the room to be pitch black, cold, and quiet so he can go to sleep.  Just another never ending battle right there.

Now the good news for the blog.  It turns out I have bouts of insomnia when the hubby is on duty.  So I will have plenty of time to write stuff, and keep it up to date.  The bad news is that the next day I might not be so up in the SUPER MOM rankings.  One day at a time! We have been dealing with duty days for months, and I still get very little sleep on duty nights.  That leaves me to wonder how I will survive an entire deployment with kids. That however is an entirely different blog post.

I hope everyone out there in the blog world is doing well.

Whirlwind

Well we moved.  When we arrived the people who had rented our house trashed it. So that turned into a clean up / kitchen remodel.  Then I took the boys on a three week trip around Texas to see family.  Now we are back home and getting in to a new routine.

I am planning on attempting to start home pre schooling my 2 year old that should be a great learning curve for both of us.  We are currently in the middle of potty training so one step at a time.  I am compiling collection of resources to teach from and getting supplies.

Now that we are all caught up hopefully I will get back to the blogging.

Ahhhh We're Moving

It has just hit me like a ton of bricks that we will be moving in less than 6 weeks.  We verified what day our current renters are moving out of our house.  Then my husband  gets me the information we need to schedule the move online.  I am extremely grateful that the military is paying for us to move this time around.  I am also excited to not have to do all the packing of our stuff.

The boys and i will be moving few weeks before B does.  He will be staying behind to finish working, and to fix up our rental.  One of our dear friends rented his house to us so we are going all out on the clean up.  We even plan to paint a few rooms and the front door.  We have had to put so much money into our house in Virginia that is will look like an entirely different place when we move.

On the excellent news side there is an awesome park near our house in Virginia.  They had just finished the park renovation before we moved out last time.  The park has one of those awesome water play areas for the summer too.  I was envious with no kids to play in it last time.  Really I just want to play in the water area myself.  I am sure K1 will love the park in the upcoming summer.  They were putting in a nice walking track so that will be awesome.

On another plus side we are doing much better on our healthy eating.  We have only gone out to eat once in the last month at a sit down place, and 2or 3 times to a drive thru.  B taking his lunch to work is saving quite a bit of money.  It also is helping to keep the refrigerator clean since he is taking leftovers most days.  I do need to go pack his lunch really quick while both of the boys are asleep.

The day to day.

Well today's good news, is that we still have renters for another month at the house in Virginia!!!!  That means not so much worry on the budget part.  I do hope they find new renters that want in before these guys decide to leave.  I think we are going to tell the property manager to up the rent which will work out even better.  So that was a big load off my plate in the money department.
The weather iscooling off so all the dogs found some long lost energy.  They have been running around playing like puppies for two days.  The cats on the other hand are looking for cuddly places to spend the days.
Getting the house ready for the sister in law to visit.  She is allergic to cats, so I will be scrubbing the cats and doing some extra vacuuming, and dusting.  I should probablly tell her thanks for coming so I get all this house work done.  Big plans for the weekend while she is here.  Photo shoot for the babies!!! Her little girl is four months younger than K.  Then getting ready for some scrapbooking and crafting.  It will be fun to have a little more girl energy in the house.
K was pretty good today over all.  I mean for the day after shots he was awesome I suppose.  We made it out to get groceries, and other household stuffs.  Then he was well behaved while the AC/heater guys were here.  He also found it in his schedule to let me have time to call the DMV, and wait on hold for 16 minutes.
Over all a very productive day in our little world.
