One of Those Days

At our house today was one of those days. Nothing seemed to fall into place, and I my head was in a funk all day.  In fact it is still funky now.  If this post makes no sense I blame the entire frumpy day.

First off the boys got up a little late.  This would not have been a problem if we did not need to go to the commissary as soon as it opened. I hate going to the commissary when there is a huge line.  So after we got everyone up, dressed, and fed we were out the door.

We seriously made it down two aisles when K2 starts flipping out and crying and screaming.  First attempt to solve his problem was handing him the next item on the list to play with.  That bought me two more aisles of peace.  Thankfully K1 was being really good while we were at the store.  Every two aisles or so K2 needed a new distraction.  I know it was his nap time, but he got up late so I was hoping we could make it through the store.  We made it to dairy and frozen food section and K2 loses it.  Poor little guy so we got him a bottle, and he was happy until we reached the check out.

While we were still in the dairy section we get some unsolicited advice from a not so helpful bystander.  At this point my cart is brimming with all the things we got.  I was a major trip that I had been putting off for awhile.  As I turned into the milk section the entire top layer of my cart falls to the floor.  Our helpful bystander says "I think you need another cart."  I need a lot of things, but you standing there telling me what I need is not one of them.  No help was offered except their unsolicited advice.  I mean really loaded cart 2 kids, and no one can help me pick it up.  Anyway we got it picked up, paid and made a mad dash for home.

When we get home K2 goes straight to bed for a nap.  The dogs had gotten into the trash can so that had to be cleaned up.  Then I made the million trips back and forth to the car to bring in the groceries.  K1 attempts to help me put them away.  He tries really hard, but was more of a hindrance than anything.  I got all of the cold things put away, and headed to the couch to sit down.  I sat down for all of five minutes it felt like, and then K1 is asking for a snack.

Nap time was a total disaster. K2 slept late which means K1 went down late.  Then when K2 would normally go down for his second nap he was still wide awake.  This is not good because when K2 goes down for second nap it is mommy time.  It is that priceless few hours during the day when both kids area sleep.

Hubby got home a little early which was a plus.  It was totally awesome since cooking dinner in a haze is never a good idea.  Some how I muddle through the prep work for dinner.  It was served a little early since hubs skipped lunch at work.  It even tasted goo which was amazing since at this moment I had the forcefully make my mind think to remember what we ate 4 hours ago.

I am trying to hold on to some excitement for tomorrows visit to the military family fall festival.  We are meeting up with the sister-in-law there, and it should be a blast.  Off to bed with my crazy self so I can be more fun tomorrow.

I'm so EXCITED!!

Ok it might seem a little overboard, but I am totally pumped.  The Zoo where we live is having a military appreciation day!!! That means we get to go to the zoo for FREE!

Now while I am sure I will not have near as much fun as my two year old I am stoked.  He is going to LOVE it.  Currently he runs around our house pretending to be different animals.  I can only imagine his excitement with getting to see all the animals in person.  Then there is the obligatory petting zoo inside the zoo.  He is going to completely flip at the idea of petting all the animals.  I just hope the goats behave.

I am not quite sure my husband shares the same enthusiasm about the impending zoo trip that I do.  He has duty the day before, and will need a nap before we go.  However I am certain that once he gets there, and sees the boys having a good time he will also have fun.  Little baby Ken, I have to use baby as long as possible because his first birthday is coming up.  Anyway little baby Ken will most like not think it is the best trip of his life, but he will enjoy riding in the stroller. Now I just hope the nice weather will hold out.

Do you remember your first trip to the zoo? Maybe you have fond memories of your little ones first trip to the zoo.  Please leave a comment sharing your favorite moment at the zoo.

The first thing I ever remember about the zoo was as family trip we took when I was little.  Being the oldest I was out prancing around, and being reminded to keep up with our group.  We had to stop for awhile at the hippo building.  Not that I don't like hippos, but it felt like we were there forever.  All because my little brother got covered in bird poop.  That is right he was the target of a fly by pooping.  I still remember this as being totally hilarious.  The good news is he was most likely to small to remember.  The bad news he hates being the center of attention.  Sorry man I had to share!  Maybe something awesome will happen on our first family trip to the zoo, and then I can use a new story.  Stay tuned for update next week all about the zoo.

So lets hear it what is your best memory of the zoo.

The Garden!

The garden we had this year was very small, and only had the basics for my kitchen in it.  The military transferred us right in the middle of prime planting season.  Between two kids, a husband, and household stuff there was no way i could plant a big garden. The good news is this year I will have plenty of time to prepare.

I love having the ability to run out to the garden, and grab something for dinner.  It really is fun for me, and my two year old loves to go out with me.  As the end of garden season for area is coming to an end I am making up all kinds of things to freeze, can, or dry for the winter.  In a previous blog I made Pesto to store in the freezer.  My family loves pesto sauces, and really do not think that the batch I made will last us very long.  I will however hold off on using it until I just can not stand it any more.

I have been daydreaming of the things I can plant next year.  There are so many things I want to plant. However there is only so much room.  I am trying to convince my hubby to make me a raised bed for more space.

Things I know I will plant.
  • tomatoes
  • bell peppers
  • jalapenos
  • spicy basil
  • oregano
  • thyme
  • rosemary
  • black eyed peas
Things I want to plant
  • garlic
  • onions
  • eggplant
  • squash
  • okra
  • maybe some mint for a few mojitos
Do you ever think of planting a garden?  What would you plant?  What are your favorite vegetables and herbs? Not sure you have the time. Just plant some herbs in pots, and place them near the door you typically leave the house from.  On your way out take a pitcher of water for the plants, and leave the pitcher on the porch.  Then just take the pitcher back inside with you on your way in.

Potty Training Conundrum!

WARNING: Do not read any further if you do not want to hear about potty training type information.  This post includes poop, pee, and frustration.

My dear 2 year old is going to drive me off the deep end with this venture.  We started with the typical 3 day training plan.  I stared at his crotch for hours, and we ran to the potty all day for 3 days.  That worked for a bit he would run screaming to the potty after awhile, and there was no mess to clean for a few days.  He began to falter so we added M&M rewards for pee, and little toys like a new matchbox car for a poop success.  Our poop success ratio was very low.  I mean this kid must love pooping in his pants.  We finally got to about 2 weeks with an excellent potty record.  I for one am overjoyed.

This triumph was however short lived.  I have tried everything I can think of to get him back to where he was.  Now days he just sits where ever he is  and tells us after he pees that he "Pee bed" or whatever may be the case.  Friday and today have me climbing the walls with frustration.  For the first time in 2 1/2 years he has decided to play in his poop, and put it on the wall.  So as to not encourage the behavior by getting upset I remained calm, and placed him in the shower to contain the poop.  Now add to the factor that my nearly 11 month old is every where and into every thing.  Now I have to catch and contain the little man before I can even begin cleaning the poop.

So now I am asking for advice.  What do I do?  I am terribly tempted to just put him back in diapers, and throw my hands in the air.  This has been over a 2 month battle already.  Am I just rushing the process?  I knew when we started that even when he was doing really well we would still have occasional accidents.  Should I just take a few weeks off, and start all over?  Help I am grasping to the last threads of my sanity here.

I have received some suggestions from mom friends, but they do not really fit our military life style.  My husband is gone at least twice a week for around 40 hours at a time.  I do not have the ability to just hand him the baby and devote multiple days to potty training.  Our first attempt at the 3 day method was over a holiday weekend when my husband had a rare 3 days off.  Now I know there are plenty of families that have similar situations that are not in the military.  So please give me all of your tips!! I will try anything once in this case. Thank you for reading this much of my insanity.

The Wheels Are Spinning!!

So busy day around these parts.  Hubby is on duty so no break from the kiddos in sight until some time on Friday.  We made it through are day safely, and with only minor potty train accidents.  That screams victory at our house.  Dinner was left overs because Daddy was on the ship, so no reason for me to cook myself a meal.  The kids still really do not eat enough for me to justify cooking a meal with no other adults at the house.

Then my friends tells me I should market one of my skills.  She may be right on with that thought.  So my brain is spinning 90 miles an hour with questions.

  1. What would I call my business?
  2. Is that name already taken on the web?
  3. Would people really want to buy that from me?
  4. How would I start it off?
  5. Do I build a client list first, or start on the product?
  6. When is a realistic goal to launch my product?
  7. Will my husband think I am insane?
  8. Will this benefit my family in the long run?
  9. Why did I never think of this my self?
  10. Then just a general AHHHHHH??? As I sit here pondering all of the above.
I am a total "A" personality.  I love to make list, and I have notebooks all over my house.  The good news is with the hubby on duty I can stay up making list about this pending venture, and not feel guilty.  I tend to feel guilty when I don't make some time every night for the hubby.  I think that having spouse time every night is important.  Ecspecially when the military makes sure he has duty every four days.

Chocolate covered peanut butter balls!!

Well we started off this morning making our oatmeal peanut butter balls.  Korvin helped by dumping ingredients in to the mixer for me. I will post the recipe at the bottom do not worry. Then we moved our work station over to the island to start making the balls.

When I turned around to get a sheet of wax paper some one took a taste.  The product was approved before we even got to our experimental chocolate coating.

Sneaking a taste
All mixed up

After we got all the balls made we placed them into the refrigerator so the balls would firm up.  Fast forward several hours, and the boys finally got put down to bed.  At around this point I started preparing the chocolate for melting.  My beautiful white chocolate chips were starting to melt.... Mom moment my oldest comes out to say he needs to potty.  I assign my husband to potty assist because chocolate is tricky stuff some times.  Sure enough there is a parental assist needed because my youngest needs a number 2 change.  (My husband does not do number 2's unless it is a dire emergency.  That however is a totally different post.)

To make a long story short my white chocolate burned to a lovely brown color.  Parenting moment over I start over with the half bag of  milk chocolate that I have left.  It must not be my night because I have trouble getting it to melt smoothly.  I did eventually get it melted, and begin coating my oatmeal PB balls in chocolate.
The chocolate
Note how nice they look with the chocolate pooling around the bottoms.  Now imagine them all neatly sitting on the cookie sheet being transferred to the refrigerator so that the chocolate will cool faster.
MMMM pooling chocolate

Disaster strikes!! That is right folks got them all the way to the refrigerator and dropped the pan.  Chocolate was everywhere.  So I scooped them all up and dumped them onto the cookie sheet.

Disaster zone

They were laid back out neatly and sent to the refrigerator.  They do taste good as samples were in order after I cleaned all the chocolate out of the refrigerator.

Oatmeal Peanut Butter Balls:

3 cups oats
2 cups raw peanut butter
1 cup local honey
3/4 cup flax seed meal
1/2 cup unsalted sunflower seeds
1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
1/2 cup craisans

Mix all the ingredients together.  Then roll into cookie size balls. Store in the refrigerator between wax paper sheets in a sealed container.

For the chocolate I just melted down Toll House chocolate chips.

On a fun note I picked a huge load of stuff from our garden so next I will be making some pesto in the near future to freeze up for the winter months.  Look for that soon.

Working on it.

The world is spinning out of control today.  I felt increasingly lousy all day, down to the point of feeling like tossing my cookies during dinner.  My dear husband was gone the past two nights at a conference, and got home late in the afternoon today.  Thankfully he made us fried rice for dinner with the left overs we had in the refrigerator.

K1 spent most of the day in an odd move his self.  He was either in trouble or crying for some unknown reason all day.  K2 decided he needed to nurse ever 90 minutes today.

Ahhhhhhhh!! End vent

It's all running together

Let's see it has been a really long time since i posted anything here.  However I really needed to vent today so here we go.

Baby number two will be here within the next 6 weeks.  K just went for his 18month check up and is still at the top of all the charts.  The dogs are lazy as ever, and the cats are driving me up the wall. In fact I think everything is currently driving me up the wall.  The house is never as clean as I want, my husband plays his video game every night when he gets home to unwind.  He takes the weekend off, and my job just continues to roll on.  He still refuses to change a poop diaper if I am home, and he only cleans out the cat box when he feels like it.

We have guest coming this weekend, and I guess everything is good enough for when they get here.  If i spend every night after K goes to bed cleaning until I am ready for bed the house should be close to where I want it to be.  The yard is not mowed, but B will probably wait until the neighbor kid comes over to cut it.  Speaking of the neighbor kid last time he just cut our grass and expected to be paid with out asking if we wanted it done or not.  I was going to tell him to eat it his fault not mine.  However B went and got him money for doing it!!! I was freaking PO'd.

Alright so thanks for reading this if you got this far I am impressed.  Feeling much better now after my little rant so back to some house work while the little man is sleeping

Ho Hum!!

Well the dog decided to start my day at 2am,  then K wanted up at 5am.  Got the little one convinced to go back to sleep.  Hubby work alarm goes off at 6:30am.  K gets up again at 7am. Not really the start to the day that I was looking for.  So no real producctivity around the house today.  I took a nap during early morning nap time.  Then we got up and went to the store.  We ho hummed along most of the day since I am still a bit tired.  Highlight of my day was the following funny e-mail someone sent me.

THE PASTOR'S CAT...

This particular story just made me laugh. Every time I think about it, the vision of that poor cat just amuses me to no end. Hope th e story leaves a bright spot in your day.

Dwight Nelson recently told a true story about the pastor of his church. He had a kitten that climbed up a tree in his backyard and then was afraid to come down. The pastor coaxed, offered warm milk, etc. The kitty would not come down.

The tree was not sturdy enough to climb, so the pastor decided that if he tied a rope to his car and pulled it until the tree bent down, he could then reach up and get the kitten.

That’ s what he did, all the while checking his progress in the car. He then figured if he went just a little bit further, the tree would be bent sufficiently for him to reach the kitten. But as he moved the car a little further forward, the rope broke.

The tree went 'boing!' and the kitten instantly sailed through the air - out of sight.

The pastor felt terrible. He walked all over the neighborhood asking people if they'd seen a little kitten. No. Nobody had seen a stray kitten.

So he prayed, 'Lord, I just commit this kitten to your keeping,' and went on about his business.

A few days later he was at the grocery store, and met one of his church members. He happened to look into her shopping cart and was amazed to see cat food.

This woman was a cat hater and everyone knew it, so he asked her, ‘Why are you buying cat food when you hate cats so much?' She replied, 'You won't believe this,' and then told him how her little girl had been begging her for a cat, but she kept refusing.

Then a few days before, the child had begged again, so the Mom finally told her little girl, 'Well, if God gives you a cat, I'll let you keep it.' She told the pastor, 'I watched my child go out in the yard, get on her knees, and ask God for a cat. And really, Pastor, you won't believe this, but I saw it with my own eyes. A kitten suddenly came flying out of the blue sky, with its paws outspread, and landed right in front of her.'

Lesson learned: Never underestimate the Power of God and His unique sense of humor.

So I hope that made everyone at least smile.  Off to bed early for me tonight, gotta try and catch some extra sleep!!

Hooray!!

So the AC magically came on today.  For no reason we can figure out.  I am just glad it came back on!! I feel so much more relaxed with the AC working than sweating while sitting still.
I spent most of what free time I had today looking up networking information on the internet.  Then on to a little HTML code reading to work on the new blog.  Wash one load of dishes, thank you wonderful dishwasher invention.  Wash a load of cloth diapers, and then a load of towels.  The weather has been crumby so I had to run  everything in the dryer.  Of course I did all this before the AC came on so I heated up the house more.
Somewhere in there I planned out dinner, got it all defrosted.  Hubby got home earlier than normal from work today.  That was a good surprise.  Then the baby went to sleep on time.  I also fit in some video game time.  That just about makes it a perfect and productive day around here.

Awesome!

Well yesterday turned out great.  K was good most of the day.  The hubby got home earlier than normal, and dinner made its self.  Then once the leftovers were put away I still got to play my video game.. Yeah!!
So I am enjoying blogging so much I am trying to decide on a more informative topic.  You know other than just the life events of this SAHM.  I am sure you all find my days fascinating. (Not Really)  I will probably keep this blog up to release some steam.  Anyway!! Looking for some ideas for a new topic.  I find that I am not really well versed in any one thing.  However I am good at a lot of things.  The ideas I currently have rolling around are:

1: A blog with a new recipe every day entitled whats for dinner with extra entries for snack and drinks
2: Something to do with container gardening in small spaces.  Like apartments  or  rented homes.

Do either of those topics interest anyone?

Hanging at Home!!

Well today we stayed at home.  Little man was terribly grumpy all day.  Come to find out his teeth are finally coming up through the gums.  Poor little guy I guess that explains why he has been waking up at night his teeth hurt.
Maddie the older greyhound decided to have her own tantrums today.  She has been barking randomly all day.  Then when I finally let her in my room like i thought she wanted!! She goes and steals a diaper and tears it all apart in my bed room.
Well it is 7PM and the baby is finally down for the night.  Hopefully!! Now on to the house chores, and dinner prep.  What to cook for the dear husband that has worked all day?  Some thing with chicken since that is what I got out of the freezer.  I just hope I can stay awake long enough to get every thing done for the day!!!
